September 22 is National Falls Prevention Awareness Day. Help take a stand on falls by spreading awareness and compassion among medical professionals, senior citizens, and caregivers - and help save the lives of older people threatened by this everyday risk.
Do you know someone who's had a nasty fall? Have you ever had one yourself?
It's really scary, and the potential for serious injury is maxed out. It's true: falls are a huge concern, and they happen to senior citizens all the time. In fact, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) reports that among senior citizens, falls are the leading cause of fatal injuries and the leading cause of non-fatal injuries resulting in hospital admission. Falls and the fear of falling are also major causes of mental health issues like depression, social isolation, and feelings of helplessness.
Not exactly a laughing matter. In fact, it's one of the top problems facing senior citizens.
That's why the NCOA recognizes National Falls Prevention Awareness Day each September. This year, it's recognized on the 22nd. This event is geared toward educating people about the dangers of falls, sharing fall prevention strategies, and spreading awareness about this serious problem among the elderly.
How can you get involved? It's easy! Your financial donation or generous volunteering of time does so much for the senior citizens of your community - and for seniors all around the US. By spreading awareness and contributing, you're supporting positive efforts to make more people aware of these dangers while helping fund research into methods of improving senior citizen health.
Senior citizens are our communities' most valued and beloved members - our parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends. It's up to us to protect them, love them, and give them the best possible future - free from fear, and free from falls. Click here to explore how you can do your part to spread the love and awareness our seniors need and deserve.
And remember - someday, we'll all be senior citizens. The more we give right now will help us all when our day of need comes in the future.
